Athletes anticipate spring, when sports fancy heads outdoors
Jaxon Prill
Q: What are goals for the upcoming baseball season?
A: What I’d like for our team is to be in the top five for our FVA conference this season. Along with that, I would love to see our team’s average runs for each game to be 7+.
Q:What are challenges for the upcoming season?
A: I would say some challenges that we will face this season will be finding our strong pitchers. We always have a tendency to run out of pitchers week by week, so if we figure out our lineup for pitching, we will succeed.
Q:What are the team thoughts on coaching change from the legendary Tony Gerharz?
A: Coach [Christopher] Atwood is great so far. He has already shown he is very caring about our thoughts to make this year better. He has kept up with keeping our team in check before the season, and I believe it is a huge advantage to have a coach who is a former college player that continues to play the sport. He is up to date with current trends and strategies.

Q: What are team goals for the upcoming soccer season?
A: We want to do well in conference and maybe make it to playoffs
Q: Some obstacles the team has to face?
A: We lost a lot of seniors from last year, so we are starting from scratch with little senior leadership.
Q: What’s the plan to overcome these challenges?
A: Build a lot of team chemistry through activities within and outside of practice and we want to make it a fun experience for the underclassmen so they can continue to make the tradition of Oshkosh West soccer strong.

Q: What are your expectations for the softball season?
A: We want to get to the sectional game in the playoffs, which we have been to the past couple years except last year, and be one of the top teams within the conference.
Q: Upcoming challenges for the softball season?
A: We are a very young team with only two seniors and a couple juniors, so most of our team on the varsity level is made up of a lot of underclassmen.
Q: Plan of attack to efficiently achieve team goals?
A: We already have a lot of talent on our team despite the youth that accompanies it, but the entire conference has experienced the same as us; loss of senior leadership. We need to remind ourselves it’s not the age or experience, but it’s how we come together as a team and make it work. We need to come together as a team to succeed.

Q: What are individual and team goals for the upcoming tennis season?
A: I want to qualify for individual state and place well. As a team, I want to win conference, beating juggernauts Neenah and Kimberly in the process.
Q: Any adversity the team would face with getting into the groove of the season?
A:We have a lot of inexperienced players who generally do not hit over the winter, so having people learn how to play again at new spots as well. Some four year veterans will have problems switching from either doubles to single or single to doubles. The whole line-up of the team will be affected and we have to get through that adversity to progress to regionals and sectionals.
Q: What are some solutions the team can do to overcome this adversity?
A: The older athletes can ensure everyone practices outside of the designated season start so we can hit the season well and not have to worry about line-up, technique, and little details that accompanies a new season through drilling and skill training.
