Milwaukee Brewers 2021 Season Column
2021 has been a year unlike any other in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers, which now spans over 50 years.
Throughout this summer you could tell this team was special. Although the Crew stumbled out of the gates a bit, the insanely talented pitching staff soon took control as their division lead swelled to a dozen games in the NL Central. The staff boasts three aces in of Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, and emerging future star, Freddy Peralta. Woodruff has posted a 2.52 ERA through 29 games, which is among the top pitchers in the league and he has proven a mainstay in the organization. Burnes went through his share of growing pains as a rookie, but his outings began to sharpen toward the end of last year, and he now has had a 2.34 ERA and a 0.937 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Innings Pitched) while making his first All-Star appearance. Fastball Freddy, the 25 year old slinger, has put up a 2.65 ERA and nearly pitched a no hitter on his birthday.
These three All-Stars have provided a backbone of consistency much needed as they have really struggled with their offense. However, since the acquisition of Willy Adames from the Tampa Bay Rays late March, the bats have been swinging. The former Ray has slashed .262/.338/.477 with 22 home runs. Before he made his way to Milwaukee a lot of people were starting to doubt his abilities, but he has shut up the haters ever since the trade.
Science teacher John Reiland has his favorite memories of the season.
“The seven run comeback against the Cubs. Remember? Aaron Ashby started and gave up seven runs,” he said. “That being said, I would love to say they are going to win it but it is hard to pick against the Giants or Dodgers.”
It’'s Brewtober time, and the Brewers will make their fourth consecutive playoff appearance for the first time in franchise history. This time, they hope to make another first, by taking home a World Series title.
