Sequel leaves audiences singing out their dreams in musical language for all
Kids all over the world enjoyed and loved the first Sing, so why did the producers wait so long before they did a second installment? The first movie came out about six years ago and had a powerful message to not be afraid of one’s true colors and to embrace a true identity. Sing 2 teaches kids that they should always follow their dreams, no matter what.
Very humorous and enjoyable, Sing 2 starts off with a performance attended by a talent scout from Redshore City, which is where every big singer goes to make a career out of their talent, and they go off to the city to try and hit it big.
With such a large cast of characters in the first movie, there are many returning and new talents on the big screen. Some of the returning characters are Johnny (Taron Egerton), Ash (Scarllett Johanson), Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Meena (Tori Kelly), and Miss. Crawly (Garth Jennings). There are also many new actors, including Clay Calloway (Bono), Porsche Crystal (Halsey), Nooshy (Letitia Wright), Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale), and Suki (Chelsea Peretti).
The end of the film features a song performed by Ash and Clay Callaway named “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” The song was written by the band U2 with Bono. The movie had some very good songs, not only the ones that were sung, but also the background music as well. As a whole, the music throughout the whole movie is amazing; the songs were way better than the original Sing.
The power of both Sing and Sing 2 is incredible, with the first Sing teaching people the power of not being afraid to show who they are and being yourself. Sing 2 carried on this message, showing that people should follow their dreams, no matter what happens or what obstacles get in the way.
Overall, the movie was very enjoyable. There were a lot of humorous moments and parts where the laughter just didn’t stop flowing. Nestled in between are moments that trigger tears from even the most stoic of audience members. Offsetting the drama are extremely silly moments, like when Ms.Crawly goes to greet the very special guest of the show, and in the process gets hurt by booby traps. This movie is definitely not just for little children.
A rare sequel that outshines the first film, Sing 2 definitely deserves a standing ovation, and a possible encore with Sing 3. Hopefully, they creators won’t make audiences wait six more years.
